How To Golf During The Winter Months

So the temperature has consistently remained under 30 degrees Fahrenheit for the last three days. That means one thing... winter is coming. With winter fast approaching many golfers will be packing up the clubs until next year and only a few die hards will be sticking it out on the course. In one way this is great, that means if you are a die hard you are practically going to have the whole course to yourself. Plus, nobody picks up golf in the early winter so you won't be dealing with hackers slowing you down.

If you plan on playing golf in these cold conditions I suggest you do a few things.

1) Grab some hand warmers and throw them in your bag.

These are great because if you keep them in your pocket they will keep your balls warm...your golf balls...which is important because cold golf balls do not fly as far. Plus your hands won't become cold.

2) Buy thermal gear to wear under your golf clothes.

Here are links for the clothing you should be aiming to get.

3) Buy a warm golf jacket or pullover.

This Nike sweater pullover should keep you very warm especially in the wind.

4) Purchase the Nike All Weather Gloves or FootJoy Winter Gloves.

I suggest the Nike gloves because they can be worn while playing and if you have hand warmers they will heat up nicely. The FJ gloves are bulky and you usually have to take them off to swing.

5) Purchase a Winter Beanie Hat.

6) Purchase Some Ladies Balls.

As I mentioned earlier golf balls that are cold don't fly as far. So yes you can try to combat this by keeping hand warmers in your pockets but the golf ball is not in your pocket for the majority of the time. It is either flying through the cold air or laying on the frozen ground. So I suggest purchasing some ladies balls because they have a lower compression which means they will compress easier and fly farther. Also if the ground is a bit frosty or snowy the colored balls will be easier to find.

With Revolutionary Golf Balls you will be able to make a quick change on your profile to signal that it is winter time. This will make a change in our system and as long as you have that option selected you will be sent the Ladies box each month. To help us make this a reality please subscribe to the email list. We will be notifying all of our subscribers when the Kickstarter campaign launches.

Now here are some cold hard facts about golf balls in the winter time:

  • A golf ball loses 2 yards of carry for every 10 degrees drop in temperature

  • The optimum temperature range is 70 to 90 degrees. At 40-degree temps the ball can slow down and be shorter by 5 to 10 yards.

  • A softer ball compresses more easily in the cold.
